Welcome in Route 66 For Abruzzo
PDF Print E-mail

What Happened
Barisciano, a small village in the Italian region of Abruzzo, was heavily affected by the earthquake of past the 6th of April.
The local church went seriously damaged too. The people of the village do not have a place of worship where they can pray in this moment of terrible sufferance.

What is needed
A new church. The minimum amount necessary to build the smallest prefabricated church is 70.000 euros. The Alpini association (former soldiers of the Alpine troops, devoted since always to charity actions) have has already raised 20.000 euros. To start the construction, extra 50.000 are needed.

Who we are
“Route 66 for Abruzzo” is an apolitical and non-profit association, formed by professional who decided to devote for free their time and experience to help the society

What we want to do
Goal of “Route 66 for Abruzzo” is to raise 50.000 euros to allow the Alpinis to start the construction of a new church.
The project of the new building will be made and donated by Bianca Maria Ceriello, architect as well as member of the committee.

How we do it
The 11th of July Alessandro and Xavier, the two riders of the association, will depart for a 4.000 kilometers trip along the Historic Route 66 in the U.S.A. Along the road they will meet group of riders and associations who will support us in this initiative. Every day we will narrate our trip in the website and the blog with pictures, videos and articles. In this way we will allow the community to virtually travel with us.
To everybody who will follow us in this special journey, we will offer a true story of an adventure 4.000 km long and populated by all the people encountered along the way.
In change of this we ask an help for the reconstruction of the church of Barisciano: with an offer of 10 euros (nearly the price of a movie ticket at the cinema) you are already helping needing people and you will experience two wonderful weeks with us. Are we maybe asking too much? If you would then wish to donate more, we and the Barisciano people will be deeply grateful for that.

Who pays the trip

Alessandro and Xavier, of course: the trip was already planned long time before the earthquake occurred. After the 6th of April we thought of cancelling it, then through hard working we have transformed it in an opportunity for helping the people affected by the earthquake. Not even a penny that donate will be used to finance the trip, nor to support any of the activities of the association.
